Mom’s Health this Mother’s Day

Submitted by: Tatumn Zale, Development Assistant

Laundry. Cooking for the family. Empathy. Tidying the house. Caretaker. It’s no wonder moms are so happy when they have the house to themselves for a weekend!

It is the story we hear all the time: Mom has prioritized her energy to caring for the others in her family, while her own health needs take the back seat. I know for a fact my mom loses her own sleep trying to make sure we get enough! For this Mother’s Day, let us talk about mom’s health, and women’s health in general! It is the most important thing to consider keeping these hardworking, supportive, loving women in our lives happy and healthy.

“When Child’s Play Communications asked 2,123 U.S. mothers what they wanted most for Mother’s Day, “something handmade from my kids” topped the list at 14.6%, closely followed by “a day off entirely for myself” (13.6%) and “a spa day” (12.9%),” (Graybill Medical Group, 2020). Mothers everywhere, you must be good to yourself!

With all this in mind, I have 3 tips to ensure a Mother’s Day full of healthy and fun celebrations.

  1. Prepare a Healthy Mother’s Day Brunch

Mom always stays busy making sure everyone in the family is well fed, so kick off your day by returning the favor! Everyone knows that having a well-balanced diet can ultimately reduce disease, diabetes, and support a healthy lifestyle so why not take the first step this weekend.

Smoothie Bowls, Quiches, and French Toast – Oh MY!

  1. Get active

Now, this does not mean convincing your mom to attend a 1 hour ‘Spin-Class”. As fun as that may be… Getting active with your mom can be as simple as taking your dog on a walk, helping her garden or take a swim in the pool! The benefits of being active are boundless, reducing the risk of disease, blood pressure, and mental illness!

  1. Stress Management

Stress can come in many forms for busy moms – the pressures of family, work, and daily life can be daunting! Often, mom just wants you to know that you are there to listen and lend a hand that can provide support when she needs it. It is important to identify the signs of stress and take breaks to compress. And my family’s person favorite – take time to laugh!

To make your mom just a little bit happier, try some of these tips so that you can make it the best Mother’s Day yet!
