Since 1995, the Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE) has celebrated National Health Education Week (NHEW), (initially in collaboration with the Department of Health and Human Services), during the third week of October.
NHEW is focused on increasing national awareness on major public health issues and promoting a better understanding of the role of health education. Each day of this holiday week highlights an important piece of creating a world viable for #HealthforAll. Esperança’s work with the Latino community in Maricopa County helps bridge the gap between the traditional healthcare system and the knowledge it takes to live an informed and healthy life. A program that began January 3rd, 2000, serving three schools has expanded to serve 200 schools across 12 districts. Esperança now offers culturally competent, evidence-based health education classes to children, adults, and seniors.
Health for all begins with simply caring for a few.
