Washing Away Disease from Marta’s Home
Washing Away Disease from Marta’s Home
Every day, Marta worried about her family, especially her grandchildren. They were sick so often.
She and her husband live in La Fortuna, Nicaragua, with their five grown children and their families. Three generations under one roof in a house with no running water. They washed in water that stood stagnant, harboring harmful bacteria. Their only bathroom was a primitive outhouse, attracting flies and overflowing during the rainy season…sending raw sewage flowing through the streets.
Unsafe sewage systems and scarce clean water left Marta, her family, and her neighbors vulnerable to dangerous parasites and diseases like typhoid and cholera. People were dying from preventable illnesses, and Marta feared for her loved ones.
But you helped wash away Marta’s worries.
Thanks to generous gifts from people like you, Marta’s life was transformed when volunteers visited her remote town in the mountains of Central America and installed modern sanitation systems in her house and throughout her community.
She had never dreamed she would have a working bathroom and her very own sink with running water in her own home. She beams with pride and gratitude, watching her grandchildren splash in the fresh, clean water that flows easily from the faucet.
“It’s incredible! I feel very blessed to have my sink and toilet in my home,” Marta says. “Our health has improved, and we have not gotten sick anymore. Thank you to the volunteers and donor friends.”
Marta’s life is forever changed by your giving. Your generous donations do so much more than provide plumbing for people like Marta—they protect families from disease, offer them healthier lives, and affirm their dignity. And the transformation doesn’t stop inside one home… it reaches across the entire community. With cleaner homes and safer streets, the promise of a better life has taken root in La Fortuna.
That’s the power of your continued support. Your generosity washes away disease and worries for people like Marta, creating lasting change and renewed hope for those around the world who need it most.
