During Holy Week 2024, from March 24 to March 31, a team of 17 dental and medical professionals traveled to Rio Manso to deliver essential care to the local population. Led by Dr. Ernesto Barrios Torres, the mission focused on addressing health needs with compassion and expertise.

Advance Community’s Vital Support

The mission was made possible by the generous financial support of Advance Community, which covered the costs of equipment, supplies, and transportation. Thanks to their funding, the team was equipped with a portable X-ray machine, an Adult Digital Echo Sensor, and a wide array of medical supplies such as serums, antibiotics, analgesics, and dental materials. Additionally, Advance Community took care of transportation and food expenses, allowing the team to focus fully on their work.

A Week of Dedicated Medical and Dental Services

The medical team attended to around 429 patients, offering consultations in general medicine, orthopedics, and diabetes management. The team administered 50 intravenous vitamin serums, performed 100 infiltrations, and completed three minor surgical procedures. Every patient was treated with care, ensuring that their health concerns were addressed thoroughly.

The dental team also made a significant impact, providing services to approximately 451 patients. They performed 597 procedures, including extractions, resin fillings, cleanings, surgeries for third molars, root canals, and prosthetic fittings.

Team Effort and Community Support

Dr. Barrios organized an advance trip on March 12 to Rio Manso to set up the equipment and prepare the workspace. Alongside his brother Rogelio, he also helped distribute 24 sacks of clothing to nearby communities, further contributing to the local population’s well-being.

The success of the mission was due not only to the team’s hard work but also to the support from family and community members. Rogelio and other volunteers provided vital logistical help, including transportation and food for the team.

The collaboration between Advance Community, the mission team, and CECACHI has created a sustainable approach to care, making a meaningful, long-term impact on the health and well-being of Rio Manso.
