Speaking for a Mission: Sharing Advance’s Voice with Intention
At Advance Community, I get to see the impact of our work firsthand. I’ve attended classes with the health and wellness team and watched participants not only learn, but truly engage and appreciate what’s being shared. Being in those spaces reminds me that the work we do goes far beyond programs; it’s about people. It’s about connections. It makes me proud to know that, in my role, I get to help share those moments and amplify a message that truly matters.

Before joining Advance, I spent two years in the news industry as a broadcast reporter and anchor. During that time, I discovered that what drew me in most wasn’t just reporting, it was the human side of it all. I was most fulfilled when I could highlight someone’s experience, capture their voice and present their story in a way that felt authentic and meaningful. Storytelling became more than just a task; it became a way to connect people and the community, build understanding, and give visibility to moments that might otherwise go unseen. I especially loved the creative process, finding the right words, tone and approach to truly bring a story to life.
Communication is powerful in that way. It has the ability to inform, but more importantly, to inspire. The way we choose to share a message can shape how it’s received, how it’s remembered, and how it moves someone to act. Intentional communication means thinking beyond just what we say, it’s about how we say it, who we’re centering, and why it matters.

At Advance, storytelling plays a key role in how we share our mission and connect with others. The stories we tell are real, rooted in lived experiences and resilience. They reflect the journeys of individuals and families who are working toward healthier, stronger futures. It’s not just about highlighting outcomes; it’s about honoring the people behind them and recognizing their strength along the way.
Connecting with an audience is essential because it’s what drives our mission forward. We want people to not only understand our work, but to feel it, to see the impact and recognize the lives being changed. The families we serve in Arizona and Central America are the main characters in every story we tell. Their experiences, their voices and their progress deserve to be seen and heard.
Thanks to donors, we’re able to support these families and expand the reach of our programs. Their generosity makes it possible for individuals to access resources, education and opportunities that might not otherwise be available. Behind every class, every workshop, and every success story, there is someone who chose to give and be part of that impact. Sharing these stories is also a way to show donors the difference they are making and to connect them more deeply to the mission they are supporting.
As a Communications Coordinator, I approach every piece of content and design with that in mind. My goal is always to reflect the heart of our mission with intention and care. I hope that through my work, people are able to see not just what we do, but why we do it and most importantly, who we do it for.
Our Monthly Staff Blog Series features stories and insights from our team at Advance Community, inspired by the work they do every day.
