Heart Health Month, An Impact Story From Britney

After experiencing a heart attack in 2023, Britney began thinking differently about her health. For her, heart health isn’t just physical. “To me, heart health means taking care of both your body and your emotions,” she shared. “It’s about making healthy choices, staying active, and also managing stress and feelings in a positive way. When your heart is healthy, you have more energy to enjoy life and be present for others.”

Since then, she’s focused on small, steady habits. She lives on the third floor of her apartment complex and chooses to take the stairs every day instead of the elevator. It’s a simple decision, but one she makes consistently.

She also offers this advice: “Trust your body and advocate for yourself, especially when something doesn’t feel right. Paying attention to warning signs and taking them seriously is an important part of staying healthy.”

Access to healthy food has been a vital part of her journey. Receiving food boxes from Advance Community has helped Britney and her daughters regularly include fresh fruits and vegetables in their meals. “Having access to fresh fruits and vegetables has made our meals more balanced and enjoyable,” she said. “It’s had a positive impact on my own health and my daughters’ health as well.”

Britney’s story is a reminder that heart health is shaped by everyday choices, and by having the right support along the way.
