Hey there!

Did you know that February marks both American Heart Month and Black History Month? It’s a time to celebrate the achievements of Black Americans and raise awareness about cardiovascular disease, which is the leading cause of death for women in America, including new moms.

That’s why we wanted to tell you all about the “Happy Hearts Fair” we organized at Maggie’s Place with our amazing team! Simonne, our Community Health Coordinator, said, “We wanted to educate and empower our mamas and kiddos to take charge of their heart health and wellbeing,” we had so much fun educating and empowering families to take charge of their heart health and wellbeing in engaging and interactive ways!

Mothers got to have their blood pressure checked and reviewed by our friendly community health educators, and we also taught families how to conduct hands-on CPR in case of an emergency. The kids had a blast designing their heart models to learn about anatomy and physiology, and everyone got to enjoy yoga sessions and games on the grass to get active and have fun together.

Of course, we didn’t forget about nutrition! Our nutrition team cooked up yummy and healthy smoothies and breakfast platters that everyone loved. We also had the mental wellness nonprofit ClipDart there to offer free haircuts for our community to enhance mental wellbeing.

Overall, the “Happy Hearts Fair” was a huge success! We had a great turnout and provided valuable education about heart health and wellness. We’re committed to making a difference in our community, and we hope events like this inspire others to take charge of their health and make a real difference in the world.

Let’s work together to create a happier and healthier world, one heart at a time!
