Two years ago, Cristina began to notice a change in her son Rodrigo’s behavior. It was hard to ignore the outbursts at home and his sudden alarming choices in local gang members as friends – Tarija, Bolivia where they live is notorious for.
When COVID-19 hit and shut down her business, the lack of income and quarantine made matters worse.
Then she found Advance’s Family Health Promotion Program. These virtual workshops promote violence prevention, strengthen self esteem and give parents tools in the psychoemotional guidance of their children. While Cristina participated in workshops for parents, she convinced her son to enroll in classes for adolescents. Class by class, Cristina saw a positive transformation come over her son.
“He is changing!” Cristina exclaims through a beaming smile. “The classes have helped him reflect on his behavior. He’s more communicative and we talk about what he is learning. They’ve helped me better understand what he’s going through so I can be a better guide to him. Our relationship is improving. Thank you, Advance, for the great work you are doing!”
As part of the program, you also helped supply this family with food and supplies to keep them safe during the pandemic. There were even school supplies for her children.
“In these difficult times, this food means a lot. I also thank you for the backpack you gave Rodrigo. He is happy to have earned it for participating in the project. The support you provided is a great help to our family!”
